Tin Plating
is an extremely tough electroplated coating and is often selected
because it is very similar to Silver Plating's electrical
conductivity and is more cost effective. Tin is very
resistant to acid and alkaline attack. Tin Plating is
commonly used as a protective and conductive coating over
aluminum, copper, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, stainless
steel and steel. If you want or need the best
electrical conductivity, Technical Plating can
do Silver Plating for you too.
Sometimes
people want Tin Plating on Steel Parts. In this case much
better corrosion protection is achieved by a combination of Copper Plating
first followed by Tin Plating. Technical Plating can
do Copper Plating for you
as well.
Tin
Plating over Aluminum requires several extra steps. We do a
lot of this particular plating and have perfected the special processes of
plating over aluminum.
If you
need Tin Plating for improved solder-ability your thickness
specification should be .0002” minimum. We measure plating
thickness by x-ray, which has excellent accuracy.
Our
electrical switchgear customers usually use Silver Plating,
but they use Tin Plating when their unit will be used in the
atmosphere of a paper mill, which is corrosive to silver.
Technical Plating will give you very high quality Silver and
Tin Plating per your need.
Bright Tin
Plating and
Matte Tin Plating:
Bright Tin
Plating is an excellent choice for a super attractive silver
colored coating.
Matte Tin Plating
(also known as Dull Tin Plating) is also very common. Some think Dull
Tin Plating is
more solderable, and there are technical reasons to support
this claim, but some solder over bright tin.
Interestingly, an electric utility customer uses Dull Tin on
hardware for electrical pole lines because birds are frightened by
bright tin.
Technical
Plating can give you high quality Rack and Barrel Tin
Plating in Bright Tin Plating and Dull Tin Plating. We also have Zinc,
Copper, and Silver Plating in Rack and Barrel.
Please
